Visual Arts
Investigating contemporary artistic languages
The course addresses the development of personal creative processes directed to the visual arts in the contemporary world.
The syllabus consists of compulsory subjects such as drawing, painting, sculpture, engraving, photography and history of art. Besides those subjects, students must take electives and extracurricular subjects regularly offered by the different undergraduate courses of the Arts Institute (Medialogy, Music, Performing Arts and Dance). This experience, combined with the possibility of doing Scientific Initiation research, Supervised Internships and Special Projects such as Resident Artist or Visiting Specialist Professor, provide students with a diversified education and distinctive professional training. “The most recent indications attest to the quality of the work developed by the faculty. The undergraduate course in Visual Arts was awarded four stars in the 2009 Student Guide, which evidences its constant innovation,” comment faculty members of the Undergraduate Committee. The course offers bachelor’s and art education degrees that require full time dedication from students. With a bachelor’s degree, graduates may go on to being artists, self-employed professionals or researchers. Consolidated work market areas include public or private institutions dedicated to promoting arts and culture, museums, art galleries and cultural and research production. Besides being able to develop all the Bachelor of Arts activities, students who choose to take the art education degree will be qualified to teach Fine Arts and Art Education in elementary and secondary schools. At the end of the course they conclude their undergraduate studies by presenting an individual Experimental Project in Visual Arts aiming to achieve thorough integration between art theory and practice.
